We’re going to state!!
Congratulations to both EPXC teams on running a great set of regional races to qualify for the CHSAA XC State Meet next week, Saturday, October 29 in Colorado Springs.
The EPXC boy’s team were able to live up to their pre-meet projection of 2nd place in the region and significantly bettered their point projection, closing the gap on Frontier Academy by a mere 8pts. from 1st place. EPXC top 3 boys led the way and each earned All-Regional honors by placing in the Top 15 Overall. Dylan placed 4th with 16:49, a -3s course improvement at Monfort Park. Finn placed 8th and bettered his course time by -13s. Seth placed 11th set a new lifetime PR of -3s and improved his time on the course by -1:14. Cobi finished 16th overall (only 1 spot away from All-Regional honors) and was only 2s away from his lifetime PR. Mason rounded out our top 5 with a 25th place finish and -16s course improvement. Harrison ran a new lifetime PR of 18:13, a -31s improvement and Paul bettered his lifetime PR by -11s for a time of 19:01 (only 12s away from the 'All-Time EPXC Freshmen top 10 5K' time).
The EPXC girl’s team had their work cut out for them as we headed into this race. Only the top 4 teams in the region advance to the state meet and we were projected to finish in 6th place. Unfazed, the girls team ran a smart race collectively, getting out conservatively in the 1st mile, and chasing down the other teams one runner at a time. The girls were able to advance 2 places on the podium, finishing 4th in the region and will advance to the state meet! EPXC girls were led by Lily in 1st place with a new season PR of 18:10, a -34s course improvement, and is the 2016 Regional Champion. Our next three girls were able to run the best races of their lives (literally), all setting BIG new lifetime PR’s, and significantly improving our team finish. Annalise placed 20th, running a 21:34 which is a -52s PR and 1:47 course improvement. Mae was close behind placing 28th in a time of 21:53, a -45s PR and a 2:50 course improvement. Hannah bettered her PR by -36s for a time of 22:22 and placed 34th. Carlie was our 5th across the line placing 47th and running a season PR. Zoe finished in 23:44 which is a new lifetime PR of -22s and a course improvement of 2:13. The biggest PR of the day goes to Andra who ran 24:58, an improvement of -1:56!
Thank you to parent, athletes, EPXC alumni, and faculty who came down to support the team. Also, thank you to the Daleys for hosting a great team dinner last night and thank you to the Leijas for filling the snack bin this week.
We made it to state, now it’s time to see how EPXC's stacks up against the best teams in Colorado!
