Christmas Break is closely approaching (5 DAYS!!) and the Estes Park Cross Country continues it work towards greatness in these cold winter days. Here is the weekly EPXC news as we head into the holiday break:

1. This past weekend, EPXC Coaches competed in the 'Fastest Coach in Colorado' race in Lyons, CO. Estes Park was not only the most represented team but also had the most fans spectating the race; Thank You parents and runners for coming out to support. The conditions were less than ideal for the entire St. Vrain course and was similar to running a 5K on the beach. Though a grueling race, everyone had an awesome time and enjoyed donuts and coffee afterwards while watching Nike Cross Nationals. HERE is the milesplit article.

2. The last EPXC event of the year comes this Saturday, December 17 at 9:00AM at Bobcat Stadium. The Estes Park Cross Country team has joined efforts with Estes PAK in raising funds for Estes PAK through the 3rd Annual Egg Nog Mile.

Just as a quick history:

Estes PAK was founded 3 years ago by the leaders of the Estes Park Education Association who recognized that some of Estes Park students suffer from food insufficiency. They began meeting with members of the Larimer County Food Bank and local service organizations to secure funds and work out the logistics so they could develop a program to help feed hungry kids. Each week they drive down to Loveland, pick up food, pack bags, and send food home with 50 elementary and middle school students so they are not hungry on the weekends..especially during the upcoming holiday break. EPXC parents, Terry Leija and Karen Lasota have been instrumental in spearheading this effort.

We are encouraging ALL EPXC runners and parents to join as a participant in the Egg Nog Mile. Briefly, this race consists of running (or walking) 4 laps around the track while having to drink a cup of egg nog before each lap. There will also be a 4x400m co-ed egg nog relay, so get a fast team together too. A trophy coffee mug will be awarded to first-place male and female mile finishers.

The entry fee will be $5 for students and $10 for adults. Registration can be found here: REGISTER NOW!!

Dress warm and dress up in holiday clothing (Santa hat, reindeer antlers, holiday sweater, etc.), as aother trophy coffee mug will be awarded to the best costumed runner on Saturday morning.

That's it for now, Happy Running!
