The Estes Park XC teams had another good showing this past weekend at The St. Vrain XC Invite in Lyons, CO. St. Vrain was the largest meet in the state this weekend with 90 teams in attendance ranging from small middle schools to 5A high school teams with 100+ athletes. Many of these teams will be the same ones competing with us for league, regional, and state titles later this season. EPXC competed in the girls 4A/5A individual, boys 2A/3A varsity, boys open JV, and girls open JV races.
Our first race of the day was the 4A/5A girls race run by Lily Tomasula-Martin. This race pitted some of the fastest girls in the state against one another and included runners from 2A through 5A. Lily finished 5th overall in 18:47.
The EPXC boys varsity team raced second in the 2A/3A race and finished 7th out of 27 teams. Of the 3A teams, Estes placed 4th. Our boys showed some notable lifetime PR and course PR improvements. Of the athletes who bettered their course PR: Dylan improved by -1s, Mason by -8s, Finn by -32s, and Blake by -2:22! We had 4 new lifetime PR's set, Josh Palmer by -15s, Lucas by -2s, Hayden by -3s, and John by -2:12!
The EPXC girls team ran with a abbreviated roster this weekend due to a combination of absences from the ACT test, nagging injuries, and prior commitments. Because of the individual varsity time standard for this meet, we opted to run a scoring team all together in the JV race rather than splitting the roster in two. None the less, our girls had a strong showing in the 2A-5A open JV race which was every bit as competitive as many of the varsity races that we'll run this season. When merged with the varsity 3A team scores, Estes Park placed 10th in 3A, a team finish which would have been significantly improved if we had run our full roster. The girls also had some standout performances including 1 course PR and 4 lifetime PRs. Annalise Basch bettered her 2015 St. Vrain time by -44s. Our 4 new lifetime PRs were set by Bethan, Andra -38s, Mae -48s, and Zoe -55s!
