WOW! This week really flew by. Please read carefully below for EPXC's recap of last week and this week's happenings:
Platte Valley Invite Meet Recap:
Yesterday, all EPXC teams competed at the Platte Valley XC Invite in Kersey, CO. EPXC finally had its first "real cross country weather" of the season with cool temps and even a little drizzle. The weather seemed to have really benefited our team of mountain runners! At first glance, the results do not look exceptional with only 4 runners PR'ing and many slower than they ran on this course last year. Even more perplexing, most of our runners seemed to be on PR pace through the 2-mile mark. Curious about this, another team's coach and our coaches both measured the course with a GPS watch and both measured 3.3 miles instead of 3.1. While this has no effect on our team standing or on the official results, converting the final times to reflect the extra .2 miles provides some really exciting results. We have shared these times with the runners but told them to keep in mind that these times are not official and will not be considered PR's, however, it is very encouraging to see that many of our runners seem to be running in big PR form!
Among the outstanding individual results regardless of distance were new PR's from Zoe, Melia, Daffeny, and Julia, AND top 20 finishes from Annalise, Finn, Nathan, and Daffeny.
EPXC is looking forward to running some really fast times on our true 3.1-mile flat and fast home course this upcoming weekend.
We'd also like to thank the Stein family for hosting an excellent team dinner after the Color Run on Friday afternoon and the Moreau's for filling the snack box on Saturday.
2017 EPXC Color Run:
The 4th Annual installment of the EPXC Homecoming Color Run (Purple Pride) was a big success. We had over 130 runners, good weather, and everyone seemed to have had a great time. THANK YOU to all of our volunteers for making this event possible, in particular Bobcat Booster XC liasion, Tia Ginter, for all of her assistance with planing this year's race.
Next Race - Longs Peak Invite (9/30):
EPXC's next race will be the first of our two consecutive Saturday home meets, the Inaugural running of the Longs Peak XC Invitational. There will be 12 teams and up to 300 athletes attending this year's race. The race will be held on the Lake Estes 9-hole golf course. There will be 4 race sections, boys and girls varsity and open (both). For meet schedule, map, and more information, please visit the meet page on our team website (http://www.estesparkxc.com/longs-peak-run/).
Our team dinner this week will be hosted by the Daley & Tierney families. More details later this week.
Longs Peak Invite & Patriot League (9/30 & 10/7):
We need as many volunteers as possible for our two consecutive Saturday home meets on 9/30 & 10/7 from 7am - 12pm. If you are available, please consider helping out with one or both meets. Please also extend this invitation to friends and family.
There will be a race volunteer meeting on 9/29 @ 5:30pm in the EPHS commons. This meeting will cover information for both meets. At this meeting, we will assign volunteer positions and explain responsibilities. If you plan to volunteer for either meet, please also plan to attend this meeting so that everyone knows where to go and what to do on the mornings of 9/30 & 10/7.
Team Shirts/ Parent T-Shirts:
Athletes, if you have not done so already, please bring your $8 for the team shirt to practice by the end of this week.
If you have ordered a parent shirt, they are done and ready for pick-up. If you still want a parent shirt, we have ordered a few extras in various sizes, so let Coach Harris or Coach Stafford know. *These shirts will be $10 each.
Team Photos Rescheduled (10/11):
EPXC's team photos have been rescheduled for October 11th at 5pm. Athletes received a photo order form 2 weeks ago, but we have extras if anyone still needs one.
Lastly, this week will be EPXC's hardest week of training of the whole season. Athletes, please make sure that you are well rested, hydrated, and eating healthy throughout this week. You can only get the gains from practice if you are doing everything right outside of practice.
It's going to be another busy and exciting week for the EPXC team and we're looking forward to it! GO BOBCATS!
